Hi everyone!
I’m happy to have won this last weekend a G16 Level 6 tennis tournament in Key Biscayne. Note I’m only 13 now (I will turn 14 next week).
In fact I was lucky to have been able to play. Since I have not returned to the USA for awhile, I have no ranking in the USTA, and so after I signed up, they put me only as alternate #1 after the 16 main draw. Luckily one of the players did withdrew, and so I was able to play.
In the first round I beat Daniella Gonzalez-Quevedo 6-2 4-6 11-9. I was playing so badly that in fact in the tiebreaker I was losing 7-9 and since the tiebreaker is up to 10, Daniella had 2 match balls. I’m glad she missed them so I could win and go on in the tournament.
In the second round (quarterfinals) I beat Madison Fulgueira 6-4 6-2. I did not play very well my first 2 matches on the green clay of Florida, but finally won anyway.
In the third round (semifinals) I beat Gretchen Wolfe 7-5 6-4. She was seed number 1 so I guess she expected to win. In fact since I’m no longer ranked in the USA (you need to play USTA tournaments to be ranked) I barely was selected to play as alternate number 1 after one of the players defaulted. There were a lot of emotions in our match. Our UTR rankings are about the same, she’s 7.38, I’m 7.17 now (but a few of my wins have not been counted yet so I should be a little higher now).
The final turned out to be easier for me than the semi-final. I won it 6-3 6-3 against Kira Farrakhova.
Next weekend I will be playing a Level 4 event in Naples, Florida.
