Hi everyone,
My last tournament in this Florida Spring break brought me a “Finalist” trophy, which means that unfortunately I lost the final, but at least won the first 3 rounds of the tournament, as follows:
R16: Francesca Saroli beats Julia Weiss (UTR 7.05) 7-6 RET
Quarterfinals: Francesca Saroli beats Vizcaya Huf (UTR 5.44) 6-3 6-4
Semifinals: Francesca Saroli beats Valentina Pinsard (UTR 5.87)
Final: Francesca Saroli loses to Sophie Cuvet (UTR 6.11) 3-6 2-6
Below is the full draw of the G16 category:
Since this is a USTA tournament, they do the draws according to USTA points, and since I am mostly not in the USA, I have very few USTA points, and in this draw, I was put in position 15, to play in the first round with seed #2, Julia Weiss. If you look at the UTR ratings of all players, in fact I have the highest UTR of 7.53 as of yesterday, and Julia Weiss has the second highest at 7.05. After that there are only 3 players above 6 UTR, Camila Cardona-Carballosa with 6.25 UTR, Sophie Cuvet at 6.11 UTR, and Gianna Panaggio at 6.03 UTR. So it’s definitely a pity to make the top 2 UTR players play in the first round. In any case, after my match with Julia Weiss was tied in the first set at 6-6, Julia had a pain in her arm and had to retire. It’s sad because I really wanted to play the tiebreak with her and then the second set.
After the first 3 rounds I reached the final, and played Sophie Cuvet, whom I have known for several years, she’s very nice and has a very nice family. She is very strong physically and her serves are absolutely phenomenal. I was not in a good day, also due to extreme heat (33 degrees centigrade), and made a large number of double faults and balls out. Sophie deserves to win this event, for sure!
Of course I was disappointed in losing the final, but overall, during these 2 1/2 weeks I played 3 weekend tournaments with 13 matches of which I won 11 of them. Not so bad. I also got back in the USTA rankings, which is nice.
